What is a voluntary private healthcare plan?

A voluntary private healthcare plan is an alternative to a company-funded private healthcare plan. They allow all employees of a business access to private healthcare cover, for example, where a company healthcare plan is restricted to a certain group of employees or, when there is no company-funded plan in place. Employees that have signed up to a voluntary private healthcare plan will pay for their own cover.

One of the key benefits of private healthcare cover is the convenience. With an open referral from a GP, employees can choose who they want to see, where and when from a list of approved specialists and hospitals. This flexibility can help minimise the time employees spend out of the office.
