Problems with muscles, bones and joints can often be tackled with some simple self-management advice and may not even need treatment. But if things don’t improve, these problems can lead to time off meaning that the cost to your employees’ health and your business can be high.
Trouble with bones, joints and muscles were the third biggest cause of sickness absence in the UK in 2022 (ONS, 2022). Our Therapies option can help your people fix them early.
The right support to ease the pressure
- Fees paid for up to an overall 10 sessions of outpatient treatment with a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or acupuncturist - your employees will need a GP referral first (no GP referral needed if they're referred for physiotherapy or osteopathy by our muscles, bones and joints service).
- Over-the-phone or online assessment, signposting you to the correct healthcare practitioner (service available for members aged 18 and over).
Fast access to physiotherapy with no need for a GP referral
James is 32 and is the co-founder of a graphic design agency in Manchester. They employ 24 people and have recently moved into a larger office in the city centre. During the office move, James injured his back while lifting boxes. James had opted for the Therapies option as part of his business healthcare cover, so he called the muscles, bones and joints service to discuss his injury. They advised physiotherapy and quickly arranged 10 sessions for him. As James wasn’t able to go into work while his back was so painful, getting treated quickly was important – and there was no need for him to get a GP referral first.
What this option will pay for
- Up to 10 sessions a year: with a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or acupuncturist - your employees will need a GP referral first (no GP referral needed if they're referred for physiotherapy or osteopathy by our muscles, bones and joints service).
- Outpatient treatment fees: for treatment by physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors and acupuncturists.
- Ongoing sessions: when agreed by us on the advice of a specialist.
What's not covered?

- Muscle, bone and joint support - You and your team aged 18 and over get access to a physiotherapist over the phone or online, without the need for a GP referral.
- Health information phone line - Our helpline is open 24/7 for health information and support from nurses and counsellors. Midwives and pharmacists are available from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, until 4pm on Saturday, and until 12pm on Sunday.
- Heart and cancer support - Speak to our experienced health practitioners on the phone - they can support you and your family when living with heart and cancer conditions.
