Prescription costs

I am British, over 62, and only have a private doctor. Am I eligible for free prescriptions despite not having an NHS GP?

25 April 2016

Under the NHS, in the UK you can get free NHS prescriptions if, at the time the prescription is dispensed, you are 60 years of age or over. Unfortunately, a private doctor normally charges patients for prescriptions irrespective of age. A prescription that your private doctor issues you will then need to be paid for.
