Chris asked...

I had an operation to remove a Basel cell carcinoma about 3 weeks ago, but now have string protruding from the scar which remains. It's about 4-5mm in length and fibrous in structure. What is this, and what should I do? I can't pull it out by the way as its not movable unless I used a lot of force which could do unknown damage.

The Answer

The fibrous string protruding from the scar is possibly part of a suture, so we would suggest you do not pull on it. We would suggest following up with your GP or Practice Nurse to review this, it may need removal or simply trimming.
