Mental health assessments and support

Fast, direct access to an assessment for your employee’s mental health needs

People shouldn’t have to battle depression on their own. Nor should they be left alone to fight anxiety.

Our mental health assessment and support service, available to employees, and their eligible partners and dependants, 18 and over, as part of a corporate healthcare scheme, makes sure we're on hand to intervene early.

  • Quick, direct access to mental health professionals
  • Early and easy access for better outcomes
  • No need for a GP referral.

Our mental health assessment and support service is included as standard part of Advance (AXA Health’s corporate healthcare scheme).

A faster, easier route to treatment

With more than 17 million working days lost in 2022/23 to work-related ill health including stress, depression and anxiety¹, it’s important that your employees feel supported with their mental health.

As soon as a member begins to experience the first or repeat signs of a mental health issue, they only need to make one call to start receiving help and support; with no need for a GP referral.

Employees are 3 times more likely to thrive at a company that offers good
mental health support2

How it works

Talk to an expert

Talk to a mental health professional without a GP referral

Members, aged 18 and over, won’t have to take time out for a GP appointment. They can simply call to arrange an assessment. A mental health professional will listen attentively, advise next steps, and if needed refer for treatment.

Right care and treatment

The right care and treatment

Mental health conditions are complex, and treatment can vary enormously. Our approved network of counsellors, psychologists and mental health professionals manage this daily, helping your employees to the most appropriate treatment from self-help and life management to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling or referral onto psychiatry.

Quality care

Quality care nationwide

Treatment is delivered by our approved network of counsellors and psychologists who have been carefully selected to deliver a high standard of quality care.

Treatment can take place remotely or in one of our preferred centres around the country at a time that suits your employee.

Every step

Guiding every step of the way

There will be times when a condition is complex or a treatment plan needs to be revised. In these instances the mental health assessment and support service, will be there to support and guide through the process, ensuring that your employee is completely comfortable with all of the recommendations for further treatment.

Because your employee’s mental health matters

We believe in removing the barriers to seeking mental health support and include mental health cover and our mental health assessment and support service as standard in our corporate healthcare schemes – helping you support the demands on today’s workforce.

The initial assessment call and any counselling that the service provides won’t have any impact on your employee’s healthcare benefits. For any other treatment, the usual rules of your scheme will apply, including any outpatient limits or contributions your employee would normally make towards treatment.

Above all, we aim to help connect your people to the help they might really need, early, for conditions like stress, depression or anxiety. In most cases, they’ll be able to access the service without a GP referral – although it’s fine if they’ve got one–they just need to give us a call. Early intervention can lead to:

  • improved diagnosis and treatment
  • more timely and targeted referrals to specialist services3

“I felt so lucky I was an AXA Health member through work… being treated privately did mean I was seen quickly and there was no extra stress around getting treatment, so I could focus on getting better and taking control of my life. In the end, I had several different types of treatment. It made such a difference that I didn’t have to worry about when, or where I got it”
