Grover asked...
If an examination of sperm report states that it is Rare – Black Head on sperm head intact.
What does this mean?
The answer
Sperm Morphology is examined when a couple are having problems trying to conceive. It looks at the size and shape of the sperm in close detail. Abnormal sperm have head or tail defects and it sounds like this is one of them.
If the sperm has above 4% normal sperms (misshapen sperm are common), it is still considered normal. An abnormal semen analysis test is often rechecked 4-6 weeks later, as the results can vary. It does not mean you are infertile because even men with low sperm counts can often be helped to conceive.
Your doctor will be able to explain the results in full (there are many aspects to a full sperm test) and advise if the test needs repeating, or if referral to a fertility specialist is required.
