I had a very active 6 week holiday in the isa. I went bicycle riding everyday and did lots of physical work. I had no injuries. Following my flight back to the UK, everything seems to have broken down. Both of my shoulders are extremely painful (like I have rotator cuff damage) my hips and thighs are so sore that I can't sleep or walk. I am not sure if the two are connected. Did I pick something up on the plane flight or upon my return? Do I need a blood test? This has been going on for a week now and i need to fix this situation!

The Answer

Thank you for contacting us at Ask The expert, you were very active for a sustained period of time on your holiday and it’s not unusual for some stress to be felt by the joints under the circumstances.

The symptoms you are describing may be caused by some generalized joint inflammation and stiffness as a result of this which are usually easily treatable. It would seem sensible to make an appointment with your Dr to discuss the symptoms you are experiencing, he will be able to make a thorough assessment and also prescribe any appropriate treatment such as anti inflammatory medication if indicated. I do hope your symptoms will resolve quickly and wish you the best going forward.
