Your questions answered

Judith asked...

Red spots and blodges?

I have come out with red spots and blodges - irregular shape red spots on both my legs. I've had it about a week and it's not improving. There are some spots also on my feet and where the toes join one another in the groove. What could this be? Thanks.

The answer

Dear Judith,

Thank you for your query.

Various medical conditions can cause red spots and blotches to develop on the legs.

These are some of the causes:

Eczema- following exposure to irritants or caused by another illness.

Psoriasis which can cause dry, itchy red patches that can also be painful.

Vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels.

Use of cytotoxic drugs for certain conditions could also cause red spots on various part of the body.

You also mentioned spots on your toes which might suggest also a fungal infection, e.g. Athlete’s foot.

Sometimes there is no cause and no concerns about the spots which could be simple hives.

An initial diagnosis can be made pending on other symptoms you might or not experience, e.g. itchiness and pain and also on your medical history.

I would recommend to book an appointment with your GP for diagnosis and appropriate treatment if necessarily.

I hope this info helps.

Kind regards
