Jules asked...

Is my paraprotein level a worry?

From recent blood tests my para-protein level has been wavering between just under 10 and 10.4. I also have a deficiency in Vitamin D which I have just been given a massive dose of to try and put this back to normal. Is the para protein level a worry?

The answer

Any level of paraprotein in the blood is considered an abnormal result as paraproteins are produced when the plasma cells behave unusually and produce too much of an antibody. However, this will not necessarily indicate a cause for concern - many people have paraprotein found in the blood and it does not cause any problems, however, the GP may wish to discuss this with you further or monitor your blood more frequently.
