I had a hysterectomy about 2 years ago and I have had a pain in my left side ever since. I went back into hospital a week after with an infection same side same place, where the scar is I have had enough of this now but no one is doing anything about it. I've been to pain clinics.

The answer

I am so sorry to hear you feel no one is doing anything for you. Sometimes it is impossible for doctors to find the exact cause of a specific pain, despite lots of tests and scans. As long as the tests have not found anything serious, it is likely that the only option left is to help you manage and cope with the pain (using different techniques and drugs offered at the pain clinic).

As you have had the pain for 2 years, it is unlikely to be caused by anything serious, or the pain would have developed into something more. It may be time to accept that you may never find a specific answer or explanation.

If you are unable to accept and cope with the pain, you could try seeking a second opinion by seeing a different specialist either on the NHS or privately. Your GP will need to decide if that is needed and can refer you as necessary.
