I recently power jet-washed a garage roof made from asbestos to remove moss and soil from it. Whilst the roof did visibly stay in one piece and no pieces crumbled or broke away, I am concerned that tiny / invisible-to-the-naked eye particles of the roof may have dislodged and, accordingly, I may have inhaled them.

I'd like to be tested for peace of mind: accordingly, I'd like to know next steps and also what test(s) I should consider having done. I have AXA PPP Healthcare. I look forward to hearing from you.

The Answer

I fully understand your concerns and it is always advisable to be vigilant if you feel you may have been exposed to a health risk in this way. I suggest you discuss these concerns with your G.P. who may order a chest x-ray if he feels unable to reassure you at this stage. Following results of this x-ray, should referral to a chest physician be indicated, please advise your G.P. at this stage of your private medical insurance and telephone your personal advisory team to confirm authorisation.

Hopefully your G.P. will be able to reassure you with regard to any potential risk, but please do not hesitate to contact us again by email or phone (0800 003004) should you wish to discuss this or any other medical issues further.
