I fractured my fibula near the ankle...

I fractured my fibula near the ankle. The cast was removed about 10 days ago. My lower leg, ankle and foot are still very swollen. I wasn't sure whether I should see my GP about it yet or whether I haven't let enough time go by. A complication is that I developed pulmonary emboli for which I'm being treated.

The answer

Swelling after injury to the lower leg is a well- known issue and can take many weeks to resolve due to the location of the injury.

As you are on treatment for pulmonary emboli you have a reduced chance of developing a clot in the leg. But we would suggest seeing your doctor to rule this out and assess the swelling. Hopefully this will help you
