I have been snoring badly...
Hello, I have had this problem for a long time, and think it's time to do something about. I have been snoring badly and it has been waking me up at times in the night. I also seem to do it when I am awake but very relaxed. Also it has felt like I have had blocked nose for a while even when I do not have a cold. Additionally my sense of smell seems to be affected. I cannot smell things like what I used to. I can only really smell something slightly, if it is a very strong smell. I have had asthma for as long as I can remember, I am not sure if this may be impacting it in anyway at all? I have typed in some of my symptoms online and found something called nasal polyps. How would I be able to get this seen to. What specialist would be best to see about this problem, that would be covered under my plan?
There can be a few causes of snoring, the most concerning would be sleep apnoea and you would need referral to a sleep studies department if this is suspected. This does not usually cause an issue with a blocked nose. So you may need to consider allergies which could tie in with your asthma, it may also be a chronic sinus infection or sinus irritation that has causes nasal polyps as these can cause nasal congestion and affect your sense of smell. If you have noticed a persistent post nasal drip, then this would indicate this as a possible cause. We would suggest follow up with your GP to discuss referral to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist to assess you, they may need to scan the sinus area as well as an endoscopic examination to confirm or rule out polyps of the sinus. You will need to check with your claims team on cover for this.
Hopefully this will help you.
