Clinical depression

I've been suffering with clinical depression for a very long time and have been on antidepressants for 20 years, which are no longer working at all. How much would it cost for a private referral to see a psychiatrist? As this is an ongoing condition for me, I doubt I'd be able to get any help under my AXA cover, so am looking at paying for a consultation myself. I can't rely on the NHS and am becoming quite desperate now.

The answer

We are sorry to hear that you have been managing clinical depression for a long time. The typical fee to see a psychiatrist privately will be around £ 250.00 for an initial consultation, and then there are subsequent follow-up fees and private prescriptions if required.

To see a psychiatrist privately you would need to contact your General Practitioner or contact one of the Private Hospital Groups such as The Priory Group for their referral criteria.

We hope this information has helped.
