Circumcision advice

On Saturday 4th June I had a circumcision. My penis is now very swollen and I am in some pain for which I have been given some painkillers by the hospital. I would like to know how long it is likely to be before the swelling disappears. I am still having some bleeding which is messy but not enough to be concerned. After the operation and for the first two days I had no pain at all until the swelling appeared.

The answer

It usually takes three to four days sometimes a little longer for swelling to go down after a circumcision and at least ten days to recover. Signs to watch out for would be if you started to experience a temperature, more redness or persistant pain and throbbing as these could be signs of an infection, bleeding can also sometimes indicate infection so if this hasn’t settled down after four days it would seem sensible to speak to your Gp who will be able to both assess and treat this as needed.
