Balanced vegan diet
What foods and drinks might need to be included to ensure a vegan diet (no animal or dairy products) is fully balanced, for a young woman in particular?
You should be able to get most of your nutrients from eating a varied diet. You may want to eat at least 5 portions of varied fruit and Veg per day, base meals on starchy carbohydrates, use dairy alternatives such as soya products or nut milks, rice milk may also be an option for you, you use beans and pulses as a protein source, and opt for unsaturated oils and spreads and eat these in small amounts only.
It is also recommended that you drink 6-8 glasses of fluids per day. There is useful information on the NHS choice website on vegan diet considerations. For something more specific to you, you may want to consider seeing a dietitian.
