What is health insurance for couples?

For couples looking to make sure they have access to fast healthcare, purchasing a joint health insurance policy can be a great option. With our Personal Health Plan, there's a wide range of in-patient and day-patient cover, and you can then pick and choose cover options to meet your individual needs and budget. You also have the option to add your partner to your plan.

Does AXA Health offer a joint health insurance plan?

Although we don't offer a specific plan for couples, you do have the option to add your partner, or your dependents, to your plan.

Our healthcare plans offer quick access to eligible treatment at over 250 private hospitals in the UK, as well as the support you need to live life well. You can call our 24/7 health support line to speak to a nurse or counsellor, or have a phone appointment with a physiotherapist for support with muscle, bone or joint concerns (service available to members aged 18 and over).

On top of this core cover, you can choose from a range of cover options, to create the perfect combination of cover for you and your partner.

  • Full Outpatient option - cover with no yearly limit for specialist consultations and diagnostic tests on specialist referral.
  • Standard Outpatient option - cover for up to three specialist consultations and no yearly limit on diagnostic tests on specialist referral.

  • Dentist and Optician Cashback option - claim cash back towards routine dentist and optician fees.
  • Mental Health option - cover for psychiatric treatment (option available subject to medical history.)
  • Extended Cover option - giving you more choice of UK hospitals and specialists, as well as cover for planned. pre-approved treatment overseas.

Our private health insurance plan, Personal Health, features and benefits include:

 

  • Online or telephone consultations with our 24/7 GP service. Subject to availability.
  • See the right specialist quickly when you've chosen to include an Outpatient option on your plan.
  • Full Inpatient and day patient hospital fees cover (on specialist referral) including operating-theatre costs, nursing care, drugs and dressings, specialist fees, consultations, diagnostic tests, CT, MRI and PET scans and physiotherapy (at a hospital from our Directory of Hospitals).
  • Access to the latest licensed approved cancer drugs, on specialist referral, even if they aren’t available on the NHS (Depending on your medical history and cover options chosen. Outpatient drugs are not covered by this plan)
  • 24/7 health support phone line with nurses and counsellors available to answer your questions.
  • Get a second opinion if there's something you're not sure about (when you include an Outpatient option with your plan)
  • Access to our free online health and wellbeing centres, covering topics like allergies, mental health and ageing well.

What’s not covered

Here are the main things that aren’t covered as standard in our private health insurance:

  • Outpatient drugs
  • Treatment of ongoing, recurrent and long-term conditions such as diabetes or asthma (we call these chronic conditions)
  • Treatment of medical conditions you had, or had symptoms of, before you joined
  • Treatment needed as a result of doing any sport for which you are paid, receive a grant or sponsorship, or are competing for prize money
  • Charges for treatment received outside of our Directory of Hospitals, unless you have our Extended Cover option
  • Routine pregnancy and childbirth

Frequently asked questions

Yes, as long as couples live in the same household, they can be both covered in our joint health insurance plan.

Our cover is the same price whether you have two individual health plans or one joint health plan. There are however a few ways to manage the cost of your cover. For example, you can save 5% by paying for your plan annually.
