The facts about sleep

When we sleep well we don’t really give it a second thought.

But for some, sleep is more and more on our mind. According to trends, we are searching for answers to this crucial topic more than ever before. (source Google trends)

Here at the AXA PPP healthcare sleep hub we are here to give help and guidance, but also provide some stimulus that might just help you to nod off that bit easier.

Sleep as we know it

A survey for the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), found that the public may be under-sleeping by up to an hour a night, losing almost an entire night's sleep each week. (source RSPH) That’s an average person. What about when a person suffers from prolonged or ongoing difficulty sleeping for a sufficient amount of time each night to feel refreshed and able to lead a normal life, also known as insomnia?

Our lead psychologist, Dr Mark Winwood, says: “Sometimes we all have trouble sleeping – perhaps as a result of stress, something traumatic happening in our lives or as a side effect of another health condition or medication. Whether it’s temporary or something you’ve been living with for a while, it’s important to identify what might be causing your sleep disturbance so that you can take steps to help alleviate it. People are all different so a ‘one size fits all’ solution isn’t helpful. Instead, here at AXA PPP healthcare we have some tools that you might not have explored before and may be worth trying
