The daily pressures and demands of life can cause stress, so it’s important that you know how to deal with it before it has an affect on your health.

Relaxation techniques can be a useful way of managing stress. Whether you take part in a group or practice alone, the important thing is to find the time to do it regularly.

Healthy ways to relax

• Exercise (even just a walk can help)
• Play with pets
• Listen to music
• Read a book
• Take a long bath
• Spend time with loved ones

Finding time to relax allows your body and mind to recuperate allowing you to be more alert during the day.

Since we’re all unique you may need to try several different relaxation techniques before you find one that’s suitable for you.

• Deep muscle relaxation
• Massage
• Tai chi
• Yoga
• Music and art therapy
• Hypnosis

Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed to practice your relaxation techniques. You may find it difficult to relax at first but over time and with practice it’ll become easier and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can reduce your tension and start to feel the benefits.
