I have a small lump on my left hand side of my head...
I have a small lump on my left hand side of my head, just before my hair stops and close to the ear. I can just feel it if I just brush my finger past it, but I can feel it more when I push slightly harder. It is painful when I push down very hard. I do not remember bumping my head and the lump is very small. It does not feel like a cyst. The lump is underneath my skin. I am very concerned about it.
Thank you for your query.
Lumps and bumps under the skin are common and they can appear anywhere on the body, including on the head. They can be noticed following a head injury or without any obvious cause.
One of the common causes of a lump is a skin cyst. They are painless, slow growing and smooth to the touch when they are rolled under the skin. Cysts are non- cancerous, closed pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid or pus. The cysts do not need to be operated or drained unless they are infected or ruptured.
You mentioned that your lump does not feel like cyst however it is difficult to say until you will be seen by a health professional.
While majority of the lumps are harmless, we would suggest seeing your GP so they can diagnose it and recommend any treatment, if necessary.
We hope this info helps.
