I would like to know if there are private hospitals and doctors who can perform a smear test? I am under 25 years of age and I am worried that I show signs of cervical cancer. I have had STI checks and they have all been negative.
We are sorry to learn that you are worried about cervical cancer. The national cervical screening programme starts and finishes between the ages of 25-64 years. This is because there is a much lower prevalence of cervical cancer outside these age ranges and cervical cancer is rare before the age of 25 years.
We would suggest that you contact your general practitioner for guidance and reassurance, because you may be worrying about cervical cancer unnecessarily and this is especially so if you have had the HPV vaccination to reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
If you wish to arrange private cervical screening, then please contact your nearest private hospital. The private hospital groups will be able to give you the name of gynaecologists that have consulting rights at their hospitals and they will arrange the necessary examinations for you. The private hospital will also be able to inform you of how much this cervical screening will cost.
We hope this information has helped.
