The answer

Although most lumps and swellings under the skin are harmless, it is important to see your GP if you develop a new lump or swelling so that they can examine it and confirm what it is and what’s causing it. Your GP may recommend an ultrasound scan or a biopsy if they are unsure of the exact cause. Surgery may be needed to remove some lumps but your GP will discuss this with you if they feel it’s an appropriate course of treatment. Please make an appointment with your GP for further medical assessment of your symptoms.
