Mild leaking heart valve.

Tags: Heart

Last year I was told I had mild leaking heart valve via echo. This year I have been told my echo is normal but I am to have a ctca scan. I am suffering angina and short of breath. I don't understand why my ie echo is normal. Can the valve repair itself?

The answer

The answer is that it depends upon the severity or the details of a leaky valve. If the valve has prolapsed then the symptoms can be improved with lifestyle changes however generally speaking the valve will not heal itself.

I therefore believe this is why the ctca is needed. These confusing findings are best discussed with your cardiologist who can relate the response to your individual symptoms, results and lifestyle.
