The answer

Thank you for your question.

Many people experience more painful joints in the winter months / colder weather, where their joints seem to be more painful due to the drop in temperature, although, it is not always clear why this may happen.

If you are experiencing worsening symptoms in the winter months, it may be suggested that you follow these guidelines on how to prevent or treat the symptoms;

  • Keep the affected area warm; maybe try an extra layer of clothing
  • Apply a gently heated wheat bag, or covered hot water bottle to the area
  • Keep active, gentle exercises like swimming or walking may help
  • Mild pain relief or application of pain relief gels to the affected area may improve your symptoms

For any worsening joint pain, it may be suggested that you visit your GP to discuss further and an examination of the area may be appropriate.

We hope that this has been some assistance to you.
