How do I go about getting a general health check-up?
How do I go about getting a general health check-up? I'd like to know if I can have an all-round check-up?
You can get many of the checks you need for your general health on the NHS. For instance, as a woman in England you’ll be invited for a 3 yearly smear test (to pick up changes that can be treated, often before they become cancerous) from the age of 25-50, and every 5 years from 50-64. Women are also routinely invited for breast screening using mammography every 3 years from 50-70 years of age. The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is now fully rolled out, and everyone in their 60s should be invited automatically every 2 years. If you’re interested in other screening tests, you may be able to get them if you have private health cover with a company such as AXA PPP healthcare. Some of their policies include a regular health check which offers more tests than those routinely available on the NHS.
