The answer

It's important to seek help from your GP if you think you may be depressed. Many people wait a long time before seeking help for depression, but its best not to delay. The sooner you see a doctor, the sooner you can be on the way to recovery. Treatment for depression usually involves a combination of self-help, talking therapies and medicines. The doctor will recommend appropriate treatment based on the type of depression you have.

If you are a member of AXA PPP healthcare please also contact your policy team to discuss possible options available to you via your membership plan. You might also be eligible to speak to one of our counsellors.

If you are feeling suicidal, there are people you can talk to who want to help:

  • Speak to a friend, family member or someone you can trust as they may be able to help support you.
  • Call the Samaritans 24 hour support service on 116 123
  • Go to your nearest A+E department and tell the staff how you are feeling.
  • Make an urgent appointment to see your GP.
