Thank you for contacting us with your question. Christian Weber disease is actually a broad term applied to a variety of inflammatory effects that can affect the subcutaneous fatty layer- under the skin and is known as panniculitis. More serious forms of the condition can affect the vital organs such as the kidneys liver and spleen but this is a very rare presentation in adults and not usually seen. More usually it will affect the thighs and lower legs in adults often females where it is found more frequently than in males. As well as the inflammatory effects other symptoms that can be experienced with this condition include nausea and vomiting, fever, fatigue, weight loss and joint pain.

In terms of your question the treatment for Weber Christian disease is usually aimed at treating the underlying cause of the illness if it is known and relieving the symptoms. For example if medication has caused the illness then that medication will be stopped, if an infection is thought to have caused this then treatment will usually consist of antibiotic therapy. Occasionally the inflammation will also be treated with steroids either as a cream, in a tablet or as a course of injections During treatment it will be important to ensure that you get enough rest and elevate the affected area where possible and other simple measures that can be taken include over the counter painkillers and support bandages where indicated. The usual course for the illness to run is thought to be up to six weeks. There is currently no specific research that has been performed to date related to diet and this disorder but as with many illnesses it is important to ensure that you are eating a healthy well balanced diet that meets all of your nutritional needs. Where possible try to eat mainly freshly prepared foods in particular a good variety of vegetables, fruits lean proteins such as poultry and lean meats, fish which contains the omega oils 3 and 6 and Vitamin E all of which are thought to aid the health of skin tissues, nuts, pulses and complex carbohydrates such as brown rice and wholeground flour etc.
