Hi I am 65 years old later in the year and have heard about AAA screening. I rung my local surgery but they do not offer it. Where can I obtain such a screening please ?

Do you need to see a GP ASAP?

Would you like to speak with a doctor by video or phone at a time that suits you?

Our Doctor@Hand service, delivered by Doctor Care Anywhere, offers a doctor appointment by video or phone at a time that suits you.

The answer

First of all well done for being so pro -active about your health, what you have heard about Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening is correct, there is a national screening programme which is run by Public Health England running across the country for men aged between 65 and 74 to invite them for screening for the presence of this and prevent any complications or problems developing later on in life if one is found to be present. The programme itself is not run by the Gp surgeries but by Public Health England and you should receive an invite through the post nearer to the time of your birthday inviting you to attend. These screenings are carried out in the community either in a mobile unit or a dedicated clinic. If you are unsure whether you will be receiving an invite provided you are registered with a GP surgery (as this is where Public Health England receives the information from) one should be arriving through your door regardless. You could also contact your local Public health office or clinical commissioning unit for the area where you live to confirm you will be invited for screening at that time.

You can also read more about the national screening initiative here:

And you can also find your nearest NHS screening facility by using this link here:

We hope this information will help Tim and best of luck.
