I have been exposed to a child with chickenpox.

I am a 64 year old man who has recently been exposed to a child with chickenpox. I had chickenpox as a child. I have a terminally ill relative in hospital, is it safe for me to visit him.

Yes, I think you are safe to visit your relative in hospital. You are considered to be immune to the chickenpox virus now because you had the virus as a child. As you are immune you would not be able to pass it on to a third person. It is generally considered that you can only catch chickenpox once, although there is some evidence to suggest that it may be possible to catch chickenpox a second time (but it is very unusual). So if you are sure that you had chickenpox as a child, you should not worry about getting it again and passing it on.
