Two lumps on my head

I have two lumps on the top of my head (closer to the back). They are hard and feel like the rest of my skull. They are next to each other kind of in a V shape, I do not get headaches often. I only noticed it tonight, I don't know if its been there for very long. I've got a really bad headache right now but I don't get them often. When I do, I get very bad cramps just under my ribs I've put it down to stress as I have bad anxiety but now I am not so sure if it is stress or maybe some thing else, I have not seen a doctor or anything yet and cancer does not run in the family, do you know what this could be and should I be worried?

The answer

Thank you for your question.

The skull is made from several different bones that fuse together when we are born. If you look at a picture of a skull, you will see that where the bones join there is a slightly raised V-shape at the back of the head. This sounds like the lumps you describe, and the lumps are likely to be part of the normal anatomy.

However if you feel that they are causing pain or changing shape, you should speak to your GP.

Headaches are common and can be triggered by anxiety or stress. Try treating them with the use of over the counter pain relief, but if symptoms persist, you should consult your GP.

We hope that this helps with your query.
