Family, friends and EAPs

    • Family, friends and EAPs

We know that setting up and running a small business is tough, and it’s important to get the right support at the right time in order to look after the wellbeing of both you and your business. AXA Business Insurance research* found that in the first year of business an entrepreneur’s family and friends offer an average of 574 hours of free support. That’s equivalent to £4,000!**

However, as valuable as this support may be, there may be times where you need professional guidance, or need an independent listening ear for problems when family and friends are involved in the actual issue.

Are you aware of the support available to you?

Many small businesses use the support of family and friends because it’s free. Cost and time often act as a barrier from seeking professional guidance. But there are some simple ways that you and your fledgling business can get the information and support that you need.

      • Call the Business Support Helpline: The Business Support Helpline is a government run service offering business support and advice over the phone to people with simple questions about starting or running a business. It also provides a more in depth service where you can book phone consultation sessions with a professional advisor, for free! Find the right number for your area.
      • Partner with the British Chambers of Commerce: They help small businesses by providing practical support, useful connections and access to new ideas and innovations. You’ll have access to a network of likeminded businesses where you can share opportunities, knowledge and expertise to help support and grow your business. Find out how we support the British Chambers of Commerce.
      • Use social media to build a supportive network: Make the most of social media. Not only is it free and easy to access, you have access to a large network where there are a whole host of people that may be able to answer your questions. Why don’t you join LinkedIn groups related to you and your business? Or you could even start one yourself!
