Helping our members access expert healthcare for 75 years
AXA PPP healthcare adopts a very local feel to its charity fundraising and, since 2001, its employees have selected an annual chosen charity to focus the majority of its community work on. This is done separately at each of AXA PPP healthcare’s largest sites; Tunbridge Wells and Bristol.
Our chosen charities for 2017 are as follows:
Taylor Made Dreams
Taylor Made Dreams enables children with terminal conditions to achieve their dreams when time is precious. The charity also offers holistic therapeutic support alongside their difficult journey in the hope that it may ‘glue’ the family together rather than the traumatic experience tear them apart. TMD also offers wheelchair access transportation. The charity was set up in memory of, and inspired by Taylor Mitchell, who sadly died at the tender age of fifteen in 2011, after battling a terminal illness for four years.
Taylor himself raised thousands for charity and he wrote and experienced his own ‘bucket list’ with his family before he passed away. This journey created not only quality family times in the moment, but also deeply cherished memories for the future. It was at this time that Suzi, Taylor’s mum had the vision for the charity which initially was a three year plan, however it came into fruition after just one year and became a registered charity in 2014. TMD specifically works with children with life limiting illnesses from the ages of five to eighteen and who predominantly reside in the counties of Kent and East Sussex. One of its long-term goals is to open ‘The Taylor Made Dreams Centre’, which will offer essential support services to aid families at the most harrowing of times.
Off The Record
Off The Record runs a wide variety of services and projects across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, which have been designed with the help of young people to promote and improve mental health and wellbeing. They work with anyone aged 11-25, tackling issues such as depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal feelings, family breakdown, anger and abuse. They have around 2500 drop-ins and referrals every year. Services include counselling, art therapies, resilience training, stress management, social action projects etc. The charity has a proud 50-year history in Bristol.
