Would you like to speak with a doctor by video or phone at a time that suits you?

Our Doctor@Hand service, delivered by Doctor Care Anywhere, offers a doctor appointment by video or phone at a time that suits you.

The answer

There are a number of possible causes for a solidly blocked nose including chronic inflammation of the lining of the nose or nasal polyps. Both of these cause narrowing of the airway through the nose leading to blockage, difficulty breathing through the nose and often the over-production of catarrh which then drips down the back of the throat resulting in the phlegm you are coughing up. Sometimes a steroid-based nasal spray can help the situation but, failing this, I think you should see an ENT consultant.
