The answer

Sprains and overuse injury to the tendons around the foot and ankle are common, particularly amongst those involved in repetitive activities and sport. A painful tendon may be the result of a biomechanical imperfection in the movement of the foot or ankle, for example, flattening of the foot arch.  The term 'tendonitis' implies that there is inflammation within a tendon but the current thinking is that painful areas within an overused tendon are not caused by inflammation at all. A painful tendon can become a chronic injury unless the correct changes are made to foot positioning and early initiation of rehabilitation through an appropriate exercise regime. I would recommend that you seek help from a physiotherapist or sports physician as soon as possible to set you on the right track to recovery.
