I have recently been diagnosed by my GP with tennis elbow and am due to see a physio in July. Is it normal not to be able to straighten my arm to its full extent with tennis elbow?

The Answer

Tennis elbow causes pain around the outside of the elbow which is worse when you lift or bend the arm. Twisting the arm or gripping small objects can also cause pain. It is not uncommon to cause difficulties in fully extending the arm as you are describing. If you have not had a direct injury to the elbow such as a fall, it is the most likely cause of these symptoms. Luckily it usually gets better on its own but make sure you rest the arm.
