I have had some pain around my deltoids area

For 3 weeks I have had some pain around my deltoids area after swimming. To be honest it does not hurt as much while actually swimming. I had a weeks rest and started again but it still hurts when I rotate for strokes. Also there is a bit of a click noise. Please tell me what to do?

The answer

Without examining your shoulder, it would be difficult to say what is the exact cause of the pain that you describe. Are both shoulders hurting or just one? As you are a competitive swimmer, I suspect that you may be suffering from tendonitis. Tendonitis typically effects joints that are being used repetitively (presuming that you have not injured the shoulder doing something else). Tendonitis is best treated with rest, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDSs) and physiotherapy. You had better get this looked at by your doctor who can confirm the diagnosis and decide which treatment is most suitable for you.
