The answer

Pain at the front of the knee after exercising sounds like anterior knee pain. Anterior knee pain can be caused by many different reasons, such as patellar mal-tracking (misalignment of the kneecap) or patellar tendonitis (inflammation of the patellar tendon). Patellar tendonitis, in particular, will commonly cause pain made worse by activities such as running, squatting or going up/down stairs. Resting of the knee, along with anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, are the first steps towards recovery from the pain. If there is an underlying reason for the pain, it will only be solved quickly by a physiotherapist.
