For about 4 years I have been developing too much mucus causing a lot of coughing this happened after a particular bad cold two years later I developed arthritis on my big right toe which I thought was down to an earlier injury lately I have now got pains in some finger joints and my other big toe. could both complaints be linked to one cause ie autoimmune system

The Answer

An autoimmune condition would certainly need to be considered when diagnosing multiple joints pains, so I think it would be a very good idea to discuss your concerns with your GP. Your GP will be able to do some blood tests that can look for evidence of these types of conditions. You may also need to have some X-rays of your hands and joints to look for a cause of the pain. The excessive mucus may not be linked but it is always worth mentioning this to your doctor just in case it could be.
