I have this tightness on my chest.

I have this tightness on my chest, sometimes it throbs slightly, some days not. Now started with a dry cough. I am 73 years of age. I recently had angina test and was fine had blood test and was fine apart from high cholesterol which I am on medication for.

The answer

It's good that you have had an angina test as this is important to exclude in cases of chest pain or tightness. Similar symptoms can be caused by acid reflux (acid travelling up into the swallowing tube from the stomach) or even stress-related 'chest wall pain' which is pain from the rib cage and breast bone itself which is often stress related. If the cough continues for more than a few weeks I suggest seeing your GP for an explanation or a chest X-ray.
