I often feel weak after eating a full meal.
I often feel weak straight after having a full meal, as if I haven't eaten anything. My usual meals are wholemeal bread, pasta, jacket potatoes etc and they're not sugary or overly processed. I can't think of any reasons, could you help please?
Food needs to be broken down properly within the stomach before passing into the small intestine, where the nutrients are further digested and absorbed. Some people suffer with a condition called 'gastric dumping syndrome' in which the food passes too quickly through the stomach, causing distension of the small intestine and symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, abdominal cramps, dizziness, sweating and bloating. The feeling of weakness may be induced by a drop in energy levels as the sudden rush of food into the small intestine causes a peak of insulin to draw sugars away from the bloodstream. Those who suffer with this condition should try to eat smaller meals more often, avoid excess fats and not overdo the carbohydrates.
