The answer

What you are describing very much sounds like sciatica. This is often caused by a disc problem in the lower back, pressing on the nerve that goes down the leg. In most cases it settles on its own within 6 weeks, any longer than this may need some treatment by a specialist. You should be examined by your doctor who will be able to confirm the correct diagnosis and direct you towards the best treatment, which often starts with physiotherapy.
