Because bowel cancer can be hard to diagnose in the first place, a recurrence of the cancer can also be difficult to detect, at least initially. Therefore I would normally expect someone in your situation to have colonoscopies or sophisticated scans at regular intervals for the first few years or so at least. Also sometimes a blood test called a CEA which is a so-called 'cancer marker' is done. However, there may be a very good reason in your case why this hasn't happened for over a year to do with the type of cell causing the cancer. To put your mind at rest why don't you either discuss it with your GP or write to your specialist.
